This position is located in the Office of the Inspector General. The position description number for this position is 454828. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustment for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. This is a non-supervisory, non-bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement.

Duties

The Senior Criminal Investigator position serves as an investigator in the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and is under the supervision of the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations (AIGI).  The position is located in the OIG, an independent office within the Library of Congress (Library), as defined by 2 USC § 185. The OIG has overall responsibility for planning, conducting and overseeing investigations dealing with Library programs and operations, except incidents involving violence or personal property.

Qualifications

Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to plan, organize, and conduct criminal, civil, and administrative investigations.** Knowledge of U.S. criminal laws; Federal rules of procedure; rules of evidence; precedent court decisions; laws and decisions relating to search, seizure, and arrest; and investigative principles.** Ability to communicate orally and serve as an investigative program liaison within and outside an agency. Ability to communicate in writing. Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.
