This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans (PLCY); Executive Secretariat.
The primary purpose of this position is to assign and finalize written materials, which may include executive correspondence, briefing materials, reports, testimony, questions for the record (QFRs), and audit-related information prepared by the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans.
Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.
Duties
As a Supervisory Correspondence Analyst, GS-0301-14, your typical work assignments may include:
Writing, editing, and preparing Writes, edits, and prepares final correspondence, briefing materials and other documents for the Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy, and Plans on a wide variety of policy related issues and requests for information on Homeland Security programs assigned to the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans. As necessary, performs additional research and rewrites submissions to organize, balance, and apply a consistent sense of style, grammar, and punctuation practices to the finished product.
Researching, gathering, developing, and checking the accuracy of information from a wide range of sources regarding DHS policy objectives.
Making assignments to the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans staff in DHS Component Executive Secretariats to ensure proper clearance and coordination of responses in accordance with the Office of the Executive Secretary correspondence program guidelines.
Maintaining effective, productive relationships with staffs of other DHS Components to ensure requests for information are assigned and routed to the appropriate individuals for review, tracking, and timely responses.
Determines the most logical and effective use of information and ensures consistency with recent and previous written materials and determines the overall length and tone based upon purpose of the document(s), the medium, and the audience.
Prepares or coordinates the scheduling and preparation of briefing material for appointments, conferences, etc.; collecting, maintaining, controlling, retrieving, and disseminating policy correspondence and documents applicable to the information needs of the principal; researching, preparing, and editing various informational material and decision memoranda for the Office of the Under Secretary.

Requirements

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as:
Developing, coordinating, and finalizing written products for senior level executive officials within an organization;
Rewriting submissions to organize, ensure clarity and accuracy; and applying a consistent sense of style and grammar to finished products;
Determining the overall length, organization, and tone of policy documents based on the purpose of the document, the medium, and the audience and ensuring that all content reflects Administration policy positions; and
Engaging with the Government Accountability Office and Office of the Inspector General during all aspects of the audit process.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
