This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Seventh Coast Guard District, Sector Charleston, Command Center, in North Charleson, SC.

Duties

This position serves as a Coast Guard Sector Command Center (SCC) Operations Unit Watchstander maintaining information management, situational awareness, and command and control over all Coast Guard operations in the Sector area of responsibilityBeing a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The applicant is subject to pre-appointment and random drug testing.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a Secret clearance.
  • This position may require a one year provationary period.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • A final offer of employment is contingent upon a negative drug test result.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:  Collecting initial information to classify search and rescue (SAR) cases and begin case documentation; Providing tracking and other sensor information to support missions; Providing course and speed information to response assets to coordinate arrivals at a particular point; and writing final situation reports about search and rescue (SAR) cases. ORPh.D. or equivalent doctoral degreeOR3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree ORLL.M., if relatedOR A combination of successfully completed equivalent education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. Must provide transcripts if using education.National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
