This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain DOD Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the Environmental Division, Directorate of Public Works, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Duties

Direct Forestry Planning Section activities. Direct the development of operational management plans for forest management activities. Serve as section chief with responsibility for technical and administrative supervision of subordinate employees. Ensure operational plans being implemented promote ecosystem management and proper utilization of resources.

Requirements

  • Temporary duty travel of 5% may be required.
  • Pre-employment physical and annual audio-grams are required ,additional medical evaluations may be required.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Background Investigation.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in forestry; or a related subject-matter field that included a total of at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours of course work were in forestry. The curriculum must have been sufficiently diversified to include courses in each of the following areas: Management of Renewable Resources -- study of the science and art of managing renewable resources to attain desired results. Forest Biology -- study of the classification, distribution, characteristics, and identification of forest vegetation, and the interrelationships of living organisms to the forest environment. Forest Resource Measurements and Inventory -- sampling, inventory, measurement, and analysis techniques as applied to a variety of forest resources. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in forestry, or at least 30 semester hours in any combination of biological, physical, or mathematical sciences or engineering, of which at least 24 semester hours were in forestry. The requirements for diversification of the 24 semester hours in forestry are the same as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year specialized experience which includes applying forest management knowledge and skills in the field; preparing forestry plans and reports; managing forestry related projects and/or studies; evaluating information to identify impact on forest resources and recommend plans in response to the findings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
