Duties
Major Duties Statement
The position is a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor for the Blue Ridge Parkway. This position is duty stationed in the Montebello Sub-District located in Augusta County, Virginia. The position is a working supervisor, assigned responsibility for daily maintenance operations and the construction and repair of physical facilities within the assigned area. The position provides daily supervision and direction to assigned workers to accomplish trades work and maintenance, construction, and repair operations on a variety of facilities including historic structures, water and wastewater utilities, roads, trails, maintained landscapes. The incumbent organizes, directs, and reviews activities performed largely by Parkway maintenance personnel but may also be assigned supervision of such work by private contract. Incumbent is required to be available on call to respond to emergencies during off duty hours.

The Blue Ridge Parkway extends 469 miles along the crest of the southern Appalachian Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia between two eastern national parks - Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains. Montebello, Virginia - The duty station is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Montebello Maintenance Area, which boarders three counties in Virginia: Augusta, Rockbridge and Nelson. The duty station is located approximately 25 miles from Lexington, VA and 30 miles from Waynesboro, VA. All goods and services are available in Lexington, Waynesboro and the surrounding communities.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a current NPS Working Sawyer certification within 12 months of appointment, a NPS Working Faller certification within 24 months of appointment.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to three (3) nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
