About the Position: Serves as working leader of approximately twenty employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
Duties
Applies a variety of complex methods, procedures, and techniques to layout, install, align, repair, overhaul, and maintain numerous types of fixed and semi-fixed production and some non-production machinery and equipment.
Examines and troubleshoots to determine the nature and extent of repairs necessary and make needed repairs by replacing, reworking, or refinishing worn or damaged parts and components.
Interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-views blueprints, and other documents in determining to isolate malfunctions.
Use various test equipment and measuring devices such as leak detectors, flow meters, depth and feeler gauges, calipers, bearing bridge gages, alignments scopes, transits, dial indicators, RPM counters, strobe tachometers, verniers, and micrometers.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- The incumbent is required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Production Machinery Mechanic Leader (Machine Repair) without more than normal supervision. The work of the position normally includes leading or working besides others to diagnose and repair of a wide range of complex industrial machines or equipment that have interrelated electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical mechanisms; repair machinery/equipment by replacing parts from stock if available; adjusting, reworking, or rebuilding worn parts or manufacturing new parts; perform precision alignment and adjustments in repair and reassembly of complicated machinery; comply with supervisor's instructions on work sequences, procedures, and methods. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally carrying objects in excess of 50pounds for considerable distances. Pushes, pulls, reaches, walks, crawls, kneels, bends, and climbs for sustained periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside/outside, exposed to prevailing weather conditions and excessive noise. Regularly exposed to moving objects, elevations, and sharp edges with possibility of cuts, bruises, and more serious injuries. Grease, dirt, and dampness are frequently encountered.
Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 12 Months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.
