About the Position: The position is located in Fort Belvoir, VA. Fort Belvoir is approximately 15 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., five miles from Alexandria, VA and next door to the community of Mount Vernon, VA. Duties
The incumbent in this position serves as a Supervisory Public Safety Dispatcher that works under the direct supervision of the Emergency Communications Center Manager, who defines overall program objectives.
The incumbent in this position serves as the supervisor for multiple shifts, round-the-clock, of Public Safety Dispatchers.
The incumbent in this position consults with the Fire Chief, Physical Security Chief, and Police Chief on operational and procedural issues concerning fire, police, and security response.
Assigns work and special duties to Public Safety Dispatchers.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- This position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential".
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
- Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
- Work requires rotating shifts which includes days, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Subject to call back, on-call, and mandatory overtime as the mission requires.
- This position requires Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross within one year.
- This position requires State NCIC certification within 6 months of start date.
- Continuous current certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience;
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes receiving and evaluating 911 calls; providing emergency dispatch support for Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services; monitoring 911 systems, fire alarm systems and commercial security systems; and managing data for evidence and statistical purposes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
