You will serve as a TECHNICAL WRITER (ALRE) in the FRCMA VRT DEPT, FLEET READINESS CENTER MID-ATLANTIC of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER.

Duties

You will generate technical work documents to outline repair and testing requirements by researching maintenance instructions in the form of engineering drawings, technical manuals, and other technical data provided by Naval Commands. You will draft all internal forms associated with quality assurance functions and work execution, such as testing documents, welding/brazing data sheets, NDT testing reports, surveillance checklists, etc. You will manage a Technical Publications Library and perform audits of publications by ensuring that all manuals and other technical publications are up to date. You will monitors compliance with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 requirements.

  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position requires rotating shift work.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Developing and approving technical documents for Naval maintenance; 2) Researching and applying a broad range of technical sources to develop repair procedures; 3) Applying subject-matter knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, welding, pipefitting, NDI, and rigging trade practices; 4) Utilizing advanced writing skills and the abilities to draft and review documents for technical accuracy, grammatical correctness, clarity, and consistency with formatting requirements; 5) Reading and interpreting existing NAVAIR/NAVSEA/NAWCAD engineering drawings, blueprints, instructions, specifications, etc.; 6) Proficiently using computers (90 words per minute) and computer programs to draft and publish technical documentation. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Must have included a total of 15 semester hours in an appropriate scientific, technical, or social science field(s), and at least one course above the introductory level in the field(s) covered by the position. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school.
