Employees will serve as a Prosthetics Clerks (Office Automation) within Prosthetic and Sensory Aid Services located at the Veterans Healthcare System in Richmond, VA.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Provides patient care/support services via telephone calls and patient visitors. Schedules patient appointments, authorize patient travel, and completes forms and referrals. Receives and analyzes Prosthetics consults and prescription for items, services, and home medical equipment from physicians and other clinical services. Examines clinical health records, claim folders, and medical entitlement for prosthetic items and services, determines patient eligibility for prosthetic appliances and services, and advises patient of the same. Distributes stock to eligible patients and posts stock issues to the automated prosthetic programs. Uses a variety of office automation equipment (e.g., computer, word processor, facsimile machine, keyboard and visual display equipment, telephones; etc.) to effectively communicate with others, produce forms, complete correspondence, and enter data used for reports. Utilizes proficient knowledge of prosthetic appliances and services to instruct patients, family members, and caregivers on the proper use, safety, and maintenance of the equipment. Maintains and documents medical records and detailed accounting of all actions taken for patients. Performs other duties as necessary. Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes using a variety of office automation equipment (e.g., computers, word processor, facsimile machine, telephones; etc.) to effectively communicate with others, produce forms, complete correspondence, and enter data used for reports; carrying out a variety of advisory and technical administrative functions. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of 2 years is creditable. AND TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Administration and ManagementComputer SkillsContracting/ProcurementMedical Information IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work of the incumbent can be sedentary, but requires moving, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing equipment in the property distribution area. There is walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and carrying and lifting of items up to 60 lbs. such as equipment and supplies provide to veterans.
