The incumbent in this position will serve as a Junior Policy Advisor in the Office of Recovery Programs (ORP), Departmental Offices.
The Office of Recovery Programs (ORP), U.S. Department of the Treasury is responsible for leading the Department's implementation of economic relief and recovery programs, including nearly $420 billion in programs from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
- In conjunction with senior policy advisors, drafting memoranda to senior Treasury officials, presenting the issues raised by policy, outreach, and operational choices, and recommending courses of action.
- Briefing and advising Treasury officials and providing pertinent information to senior policy advisors for decision making on potentially controversial policy issues.
- Working closely with other ORP staff, Treasury legal counsel and other Treasury program offices to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Providing advice, analytical support, and recommendations on mission-critical policy issues.
Qualifications

Specialized experience for the GS-12 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-11 level, or equivalent that is directly related to the position and has equipped the candidate with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for the GS-12 is defined as:
- Developing written analysis and memorandums relative to policy issues on behalf of senior officials, including recommending the appropriate courses of action.; AND
- Conducting research to improve organizational effectiveness as it relates to policies and internal processes and assisting with determining the best solutions pertaining to organizational policies; AND
- Prioritizing multiple tasks and handling confidential information in a fast-paced environment.
Specialized experience for the GS-11: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service, public or other private sectors. Specialized experience for the GS-11 is defined as:
- Assisting with the development of written analysis and memorandums relative to policy issues; AND
- Providing recommendations to management; AND
- Prioritizing multiple tasks to meet deadlines with excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Specialized experience for the GS-09: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service, public or other private sectors. Specialized experience for the GS-09 is defined as:
- Assisting senior employees with the development of written analysis and memorandums relative to policy issues; AND
- Assisting with the development of recommendations to management; AND
- Handling multiple tasks to meet deadlines with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
