Duties
Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate the implementation of activities related to Patient Safety, The Joint Commission, Infection Control and manages the Clinical Risk Management activities for the facility.
Act as the Quality Management Adviser to the Continuous Accreditation Readiness committee (CART).
Investigate cases from multiple data sources, such as inpatient and outpatient records, incident reports, occurrences, infection control data, length of stay, or summaries of complications to identify problems.
Provide oversight in the implementation of patient safety policies and activities developed by the Military Health System Patient Safety Program (MHSPSP).
Interpret, develop, analyze, coordinate and recommend short, mid, and long range plans and programs to maintain an optimal level of performance for all functions of the MEDDAC.
Provide oversight and direction to include the planning and development of a comprehensive facility-wide infection control program.
Provide training to staff members as necessary regarding regulatory standards and guidelines, policy and procedure changes, high reliability organizational goals and improving the quality and safety of the care provided.
Provide direct supervision to the Infection Control Surveillance Officer; Chief, Patient Safety; and Chief, Joint Commission Readiness
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Basic Requirement for a Supervisory Health System Specialist:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with managing Quality Management programs such as patient safety, risk management, Joint Commission and/or infection control programs; providing administrative guidance to medical facility managers regarding policies/regulations; and assisting with workload distribution among subordinate employees.
