This position is located in the United States Department Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Midwest Area, Agroecosystems Management Research Unit in Ames, IA.
In this position, you will be responsible for the administrative oversight of various business processes, which may include processing financial, extramural agreements, property, personnel, and other administrative instruments for the management unit.
Duties
Maintains tracking logs, action items, manages administrative suspense items and transaction records.
Establishes, maintains, and revises the office filing system.
Uses an electronic calendar, database, or spreadsheet software to document employee leave schedules, transmits and receives documents and messages electronically.

Performs various tasks using on-line systems in support of the research program.
Uses a variety of graphical, spreadsheet, and database software packages (e.g., Excel) to obtain statistical data from published reports and manipulate data to produce tables and charts for program management and administrative use.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
GS-6
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience applying established guidelines involving program or administrative processes; assisting with office administration tasks; and using word processing programs to edit documents.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
GS-7
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is reviewing and editing reports intended for public dissemination; providing administrative support to an office such as time keeping, files management or maintaining an office budget; and coordinating events such as conferences, seminars, or trainings.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
