What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? The Government-wide direct hire authority for Scientific, Technical, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) is being used to fill this position. Salary: $152,105 (Step 01) to $191,900 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. There is currently only one vacancy to be filled; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels. A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. *OR* B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. (CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS ON HOW TO COMBINE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE) FOR GS-14: In addition to the basic education requirements as stated above, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equal to the next lower grade level. Examples of GS-13 level work may include: 1) securing funds for, planning, and leading multi-year, interdisciplinary projects that feature the use of enriched metal isotopes to investigate the biological fate and subacute (non-lethal) toxicological effects of trace elements; 2) devising, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting field-based and/or laboratory-based data from ecotoxicological isotopic tracer studies using algae algal and invertebrate species to inform and refine bioaccumulation kinetic models; 3) developing new or significantly modified biological tracing techniques, digestion methods, model species, or biological kinetic models to increase the mechanistic understanding of trace metal bioaccumulation and effects; or 4) maintaining, operating, and training others in the use ofinductively coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometers (ICP-MS) or optical emission spectrometers (ICP-OES)and the specialized methods of sample handling and preparation required for biological tracer studies using enriched metal isotopes. For examples 1-4, the work provided wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
