You will serve as a in the BOILER PLANT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will engage in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installation on a diversified variety of complex power and heating boiler plant machinery, equipment, and piping. You will demonstrate proper work methods and ensure team is instructed on work requirements, sequence, procedures, and deadlines are met. You will provide technical trade expertise to the associated BPEM workforce and Production Division Supervisors in the PWD. You will work with PWD Supervisors to determine which competencies and capabilities are needed to allow BPEM employees to effectively perform their jobs. You will coordinate in-house technical trade training for PWD supervisors and BPEM employees. In-house training may be taught by TWLs or by other employees. You will perform journey level trades work as a Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic and installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of complex heating boiler and power boiler machinery, equipment and piping. You will serve as the local liaison for the PWD’s Hazardous Energy Control Program (HECP) as it relates to the BPEM trade. You will have a journey level knowledge and skill to install, maintain, and repair a variety of steam/ hot water equipment systems involving power boilers with complicated components. You will have a thorough knowledge of mechanical, electromechanical, and pneumatic principles. You will have a thorough knowledge of electronics to repair and maintain power boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.

Requirements

  • Incumbent may be required to Complete, within 12 months of onboarding, Confined Space Safety Course A-493-0030 through the Naval Safety and Environmental Training Center.
  • Obtain, within 12 months of onboarding, and maintain, current licenses to operate Folk Lift, High Lift (JLG), Bucket Truck and/or construction equipment.
  • Perform shift work, work overtime and/or be “called back” and carry a duty cell phone.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain, within six months of onboarding, and maintain a Third-Class Facility Operating Engineer license through ASOPE.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass physical before onboarding and annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain CPR certification.
  • Work may require overnight travel for multiple days away from the normal duty station. Travel by air is required. Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
  • Work requires the employee to drive a vehicle. A valid state driver’s license is required as a condition of employment. Obtain, within 12 months of onboarding, and maintain, a Class “B” a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • This position may be designated as ESSENTIAL and incumbent may be required to report for duty or held in a duty status to provide support before/during/after special emergency situations (e.g., destructive weather, disasters, security threat).
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: g 1) Conducting preventative maintenance inspections of equipment and piping, including pumps, air compressors, turbines, drive belts, etc.; 2) Using electronic computerized balancing machine for in-shop balancing, a portable electronic computerized machine for vibration analysis, and field balancing, dual indicator and laser alignment equipment; 3) Fitting refurbished carbon ring packings, honing and polishing bearing journals, and sharpening and repairing tools. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
