This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, located in the Transfer and Disposal Section at the Valmeyer facility - the Annex. Incumbent has overall responsibility for accessioning, shelving, and disposing of records at the Annex. Work is accomplished independently and with minimal technical direction. Completed work is reviewed for adherence to policy and effectiveness of results achieved.
Duties
As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:
Examines incoming shipments of records to determine accuracy and completeness. Verifies that record shipments conform to NPRC requirements.
As directed, verifies disposal information, and prepares input/action sheets to update and correct NARS-5 and/or the automated space management system.
As directed, prepares deficiency letters for those shipments that do not meet requirements.
Searches finding aids and other reference sources to obtain address information in preparation for transmittal to agencies. Reviews undeliverable mail returned by the Post Office to determine correct address.
Using record schedules, verifies that records are described accurately, eligible for retirement, and disposal authority is correct.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Communicating to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.
AND
Following and referencing archival policy and procedures.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
