Duties

You will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, minor construction or alteration work utilizing Intermediate (Worker) level skill and knowledge in the performance of on-the-spot repairs required during written work order requests. You will inspect, maintain, repair and install facility heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigerating, food service equipment, motor vehicles, production support equipment and other mechanical components. You will be work with motors, pumps. compressors. gasoline/diesel engines, transmissions. differentials. reduction gear units, generators, alternators, carburetor/fuel injection systems, heating elements, motor controls, conveyor belt systems, etc. You will perform a variety of electrical and electro-mechanical duties. You will be inspecting, maintaining , repairing or installing electrical, air conditioning, refrigeration and fire protection systems including trouble shooting and repair of electronic components and circuit boards commonly found in these systems. You will perform other trade duties consisting or repairing, replacing, or installing miscellaneous mechanical or structural items subsequent to performing other duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license which must be in your possession while operating the MHE.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You must possess a current Forklift certification; or, you must be willing and able to attain a Forklift certification within one year of selection.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including inspect, maintain, repair and install a wide range of complex equipment to include but not limited to pumps, air handlers, blowers, & ventilators, and machinery services. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
