You will serve as a SECURITY ASSISTANT (OFFICE AUTOMATION) in the IS3 Non-Guard Security section of NAVSTA NEWPORT SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will enter data into security forces database (e.g., issuance to assure eligibility, entry to the designated area are identified). You will schedule traffic violators for traffic court hearings. You will proofread and edit written security correspondence for efficient communication. You will maintain and safeguard classified and sensitive material following established procedures. You will answer telephones and give information to callers, take messages, or transfer calls to appropriate individuals.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: 1) Providing clerical support to an organization by maintaining and handling classified information files and records; 2) Reviewing and preparing correspondence; 3) Using databases, answering and directing visitors and telephone calls to the appropriate office; and 4) Responding to routine and non-technical requests for information readily available from files NOTE: This information must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for the position. Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of at least four full academic years of education above high school

OR

A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
