The incumbent will be assigned to the Acute Hospital Services working a rotating tour of duty. They will be responsible for direct and indirect patient care. The incumbent will be expected to develop and demonstrate increasing skills in performing a variety of tasks.

Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to the following: Monitors patient's vital signs and response to treatment throughout procedure. Promptly reacts and validates alarm conditions for each patient. Complete EKG monitoring, assessment, evaluation of cardiac monitoring and document with accuracy. Maintain patient confidentiality and rights at all times. Maintenance of critical skills including but not limited to interpersonal, organizational, technological, and leadership. Maintain a clean safe work environment by utilizing safety procedures. Provides continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythm and patterns of conduction at a monitoring station. Measures, prints and interprets rhythms at designated interval and PRN. Preserve rhythm samples at regular intervals and enter them into the medical record with appropriate documentation. Recognizes and reports changes in a patient's rhythm that are outside of established parameters. Recognizes life threatening situations and notifies RN in the ICU or medical units while simultaneously initiating emergency procedures. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: assisting with providing continuous monitoring of cardiac rate, rhythm and patterns of conduction at a monitoring station. Measure prints and interprets rhythmed at designated intervals and PRN. Recognize and report changes in a patients rhythm that are outside the established parameters. Monitor patients vital signs and response to treatment throughout a procedure. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed one-half year of graduate education (9 semester hours) or an internship in course matter that must include courses directly related to the work of the Health Technician-Monitor Tech position such as anatomy and physiology, health technology, aseptic techniques, etc. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond graduate courses directly related to the work of the Health Technician-Monitor Tech position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Manages and Organizes InformationMedical InformationTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires at various intervals, long periods of sitting to monitor patients and/or EKG monitors. Technicians must be able to visualize monitors, various equipment, and computer screens. Technicians must be able to remain alert and in monitoring EKG rhythms for long periods of time. In addition this position requires arduous physical exertion and the use both hands and legs including lifting 50 pounds, transferring patient, turning and positioning adults of various body weights and pushing /pulling a variety of carts, litters, and /or special beds/chairs. Accurately utilizes sense of hearing, vision, smell and/or touch in patient observation and care.
