Duties

You will conduct physical security checks of buildings or facilities during an assigned shift. You will conduct investigative stops on violators of traffic laws. You will control access to secure areas by determining which vehicles or personnel have credentials for entry. You will protect a crime scene to turn over information gathered at the scene of an incident to detectives or investigators. You will compile evidence in accordance with mandated procedures.

Requirements

  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form- 2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Employee is required to wear an assigned uniform and display official designated items or accessories to include additional required equipment. The employee must follow and adhere to applicable grooming standards for the installation.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.

Qualifications

GS-06: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Issuing citations in violation of law enforcement regulations; 2) Conducting investigations related to critical incidents(i.e., traffic accidents, domestic violence, assaults, child abuse/neglect) in accordance to policies and procedures; 3) Interviewing witnesses to gather information about incidents; and 4) Conducting inspections of vehicles to detect the unauthorized removal of classified material, government property, contraband, weapons, explosives or any items detrimental to security. For the GS-06 grade level, successful completion of DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, i.e., Navy Police Officer Academy, a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training is required. Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program is a condition of continued employment. Employee will be required to sign a continuing service agreement prior to travel to the academy. Agreement to Continue in Service - CSA, Agency requires 36 month of continued employment after the completion of required training from the FLETC in accordance with Title 5 USC 4108 and 5 CFR410.309. Failure to voluntary complete length of employment requirement can subject employee to reimburse to the agency for fees, such as tuition and related fees, travel, and other special expenses (excluding salary) paid in connection with the training. GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Apprehending personnel by the use of force or police equipment (i.e., firearms, taser, Oleoresin Capsicum (OS) spray); 2) Preparing police reports concerning incidents and actions taken; and 3) Responding to emergency calls for service while adhering to State and Federal laws OR possess successful completion of 4 full years of study leading to a Bachelor's degree in Police Science or comparable degree program related to the work of the position OR have a combination of experience and education as described above which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. Officers assigned to HSB Crewman operations must be qualified IAW CNICINST 3502.2.As a HSB Crewman, personnel must be qualified IAW NAVEDTRA 43467-1 HSB Operations,the NAVEDTRA 43606, Shore Installation Management Basic Boat Coxswain (SIMBBC) andCrewmember PQS, and NAVEDTRA 43468-A, Shore Training Team Member/Leader. Theymust also be qualified IAW NAVEDTRA 43466, Security Force Weapons, and OPNAVINST3591 (series), Small Arms Training and Qualification on all assigned craft's weapons systems,and qualified as a second class swimmer. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, the following education may be substituted:

GS-05: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
