You will serve as a ELECTRICAL ENGINEER in the Executive Support Office, Code 1100, Security Office, Code 1120,
Technical Branch, Code 1125, of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will coordinate, audit, establish standards and implement testing and quality control for IDS, CCTV, Fire/Police Communications (nuclear/non-nuclear) for the Division.
You will determine replacement of security equipment and long-term projects and researches and implements new technology to keep systems current.
You will determine special equipment required to perform test instruments needed to acquire operating data and the extent of testing to be performed based on the amount and type of work accomplished on equipment.
You will direct and coordinate project and work of assigned personnel, submit to Branch Head for approval, production and time schedules, complete set of plans and specifications that are technically and functionally suitable to accomplish project.
You will evaluate the manpower required for developing each drawing, evaluating requirements for security equipment, and preparing test procedures.
You will conduct site surveys, plan and estimate, oversight and management of repair, installation, maintenance, design, modification, research and development of IDS, AACS, CCTV and communication systems for nuclear and non-nuclear systems.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent must have ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance with "Nuclear" access.
- Incumbent must qualify for and maintain a Limited Radiation Worker Certification.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying electrical engineering principles and practices to the full range of engineering duties associated with ships and their operation.
Experience establishing standards and implementing testing and quality control for complex security systems, such as Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Automated Access Control System (AACS); conducting site surveys and overseeing management of electronic installation, maintenance, modification and repair for communication systems for nuclear and non-nuclear systems.
Experience providing technical guidance for and prepares procedures for conducting tests on various electrical equipment and systems.
Experience coordinating the efforts on engineering design projects with personnel from other engineering codes or from other activities when a satisfactory conclusion is dependent upon the performance of several cognizant activities.
Experience preparing and performing reviews of all drawings, material specifications, test procedures, and other documents pertaining to the project to which he is assigned, for technical adequacy and compliance with specifications and quality requirements.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
