This position of carpenter, electrician, painter, pipefitter, and plumbing mechanic is the assigned lead of the Construction Crew section of Facilities Management Service at VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics (VA SORCC), White City, Oregon.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
The incumbent's main work is to perform internal construction crew project leadership, planning, scheduling, material list, and coordination of construction crew employees and work will also require that the incumbent assist the journey level employees and complete project work. The project work will range in complexity and size depending upon facility need, but could involve the following: large flooring replacement including structural components, demolition and installation of new walls, structurally support work, wing remodels and retrofits, and other similar projects which requires work from all trade areas.
The incumbent will regularly oversee various journey level workers in areas of carpenter, pipefitting/plumbing, and electrical along with project specific painting and HVAC where the incumbent leads regularly 5 employees and may have to lead up to 10-15 employees, depending upon the project complexity.
The incumbent with lead and coordinate painters that perform painting and drywall patching, site preparation, and texturing; lead carpenters in modifications for carpentry work in cutting, measuring, constructing wood and wood substitute items, install, modify, repair and replace ceiling tiles, install or patch flooring, new drywall or patching walls, repairs structures; and complete painting work and patching on mostly gypsum board surfaces but may be required to work with other surfaces in various capacities.
The incumbent is called upon to lead and coordinate work with journey level pipefitters and utility specialist with plumbing projects related to plumbing fixtures, dirty traps, leaky drains, lines, appurtenances, along with hooking up to installed systems such things as water heaters, disposal units, and faucets. The incumbent will also be called upon to assist with new installations for plumbing such as new lines, fixtures, pumps, and so on.
The incumbent is also called upon to lead and coordinate work with journey level electricians related to installing new electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment along with modifying existing systems. Typically these would be secondary power distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements, to distribution panels, switchgears, power and control circuits, multiphase systems, thermocouple sensors, lighting protection, high intensity lighting systems with controls, target mechanisms, AC/DC rectifications, and various other electrical work aspects including low voltage electronic security and fire alarm work.
Incumbent assists journey level Carpenters with complicated modifications and project work under his/her direction including concrete work and complicated wood structural work of wall or ceiling demolition or installation of new along with flooring installation and other carpentry project and modification related work.
The incumbent will be called upon for some projects to lead and coordinate work with HVAC mechanics on installation of new and modifying existing equipment for a variety of air conditioning and heating, humidity, and ventilation systems in a variety of locations: warehouses, communication centers, electrical data centers, laboratories, treatment rooms, clean rooms, training rooms, and for sensitive equipment.
The incumbent is responsible for accurately completing project and modification related work orders daily as required for the computerized system. Incumbent is also responsible for preparing detailed schedules, coordination, supplies and material list, reviewing floor plans, and other type of general contractor superintendent type work for these internal, construction crew projects.
The incumbent may be called to assist the maintenance employees with work orders and other maintenance functions between project work which might include leading construction crew team in preventative maintenance and work order work.

Physical Requirements: The work requires manual dexterity, good physical condition and stamina along with the ability to lift and carry such items as heavy ladders, scaffolding, lumber, tools and equipment. The incumbent must have the ability to work from all positions while standing on the floor, ground, ladders, scaffolding and roofs at heights up to 32 feet. Work involves considerable standing, walking, crawling, bending and stooping. Ability to work above one's head on walls and ceilings while using tools weighing from 2 to 7 pounds. The incumbent is working in hot areas where heat stress while in protective overalls and respirator and the concern of heat stroke exists.

assist with overseeing the operation of maintenance, repair, and or replacement of all equipment and systems;
reads blueprints and technically complicated equipment diagrams to determine what work aids are required and understand the sequence of installations;
inspect VA contractor's construction work to ensure it meets code, manufacture installation guidelines
