Duties
Responsible for tracking, delegating, investigating and responding to tasks/inquiries from congressional representatives, government officials, bureau staff and the general public. Functions as a regional expert in offender issues, VWP, CIM, IFRP, RPP and a variety of other inmate programs. Acts as a trouble shooter to resolve some of the most difficult issues faced by the Bureau. Serves as a resource for field staff regarding unit/case management procedures and policies. Develops, implements, conducts and documents staff assist visits for facilities within the Region. Participates in Institution Character Profiles (ICP), as well as other work related travel. Investigates grievances submitted as administrative remedy appeals, regarding unit/case management policies and procedures. Provides training for BOP and non-BOP personnel on BOP policies and procedures such as Security Designation and Custody Classification. Has oversight responsibility in the determination of appropriate CIM assignments and procedures for the Regional Office and serves as a CIM resource for BOP staff. Provides support in developing and conducting training sessions for Correctional Programs personnel including unit secretaries, case managers, interns, unit managers and case management specialists. Reviews and studies current program modalities and techniques, presents their advantages and disadvantages, and provides specific program recommendations. Accumulates data for statistical analysis of programs as required and assists in its evaluation and its impact toward the Correctional Programs policies and procedures. Contributes to the development of national program statements, as assigned, relating to Correctional Programs and assists in reviews and updates of Program Review guidelines.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education:There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.Experience:You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is directly related experience that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates and associates in a correctional environment.Experience must have also demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully. This includes (1) understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions, (2) a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures, and (3) training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives. This experience must have been gained in an administrative position, or in other positions that included the successful direction, or assistance in the direction of, an entire correctional program or a major phase of such a program.Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience with investigations which involves grievances submitted as administrative remedy appeals, regarding unit/case management policies and procedures.
Experience in gathering data from statistical information and analyzing the data to determine the impact on policies or procedures.
Experience reviewing draft proposals or program statements and providing guidance, comments, or recommendations for approval.
Experience in obtaining, collecting, and distributing information regarding established policies and procedures to other departments and providing training to staff members on unit/case management operations.
