You will serve as a Chemist in the Navy Drug Screening Laboratory of NAVDRUGLAB GREAT LAKES IL.
Duties
You will provide testing of urine specimens for drugs of abuse and their metabolites
You will serve as a Final Laboratory Certifying Official for immunoassay in order to certify data for accuracy and reliability
You will certify Gas Chromotogrophy/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and/or Liquid Chromotography/Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) in order to certify data for accuracy, reliability, and scientific soundness.
You will assist in the production of drug testing results with particular effort toward reporting forensic quality data in a timely manner
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
Qualifications
To Qualify for GS-11:
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience serving as a Final Laboratory Certifying Official for immunoassay in order to certify data for accuracy and reliability.
- Experience certifying Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and/or Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) in order to certify data for accuracy, reliability, and scientific soundness.
- Experience providing scientific interpretation of GC/MS and/r LC/MS/MS results and interprets laboratory data covering both technical aspects of testing and drug metabolism and pharmacology
- Experience applying Analytical Chemistry principals in order to provide scientific interpretation of results and laboratory data
- Experience producing drug testing results with particular effort toward reporting forensic quality data in a timely manner
To qualify for GS-09:
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience serving as a Final Laboratory Certifying Official for immunoassay in order to certify data for accuracy and reliability with limited supervision.
- Experience certifying Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) and/or Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) in order to certify data for accuracy, reliability, and scientific soundness.
- Experience assisting in providing scientific interpretation of GC/MS and/r LC/MS/MS results and interprets laboratory data covering both technical aspects of testing and drug metabolism and pharmacology
- Experience assisting in the production of drug testing results with particular effort toward reporting forensic quality data in a timely manner

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Applicants must possess:
1. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
2. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
