The primary purpose of this position is to to provide appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children in the Child Development Centers
Duties
Assists in the implementation, review and design of activity plan.
Assists preparations and implementations specialized programs for children with special needs, i.e., handicapped children with disciplinary problems, or learning disabilities of gifted children. Ensures specialized programs are appropriate and in line with mission objection.
Observes and evaluates children's development level and maintains record of progress.
Plans and conducts parent involvement activities and encourages parents to become involved.
Selectee will be required to complete the AF Child Development Program Assistant Modules according to AFI34-248 and Criteria C294. Satisfactory progress toward and completion of the modules is a condition of employment. After fulfilling the initial 6 month requirement of completing 3 modules (#14 & #15 plus module of choice), caregivers must complete a minimum of 3 modules every 3 months, completing all modules within the first 18 months of employment.
This position may also be used for part-time work.

- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- There is some walking; standing; bending; carrying of items up to 35 lbs. May be required to lift children. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
- The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, classrooms, and playgrounds.
- Must complete training requirements annually to include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, Rescue Breathing, Child Abuse Identifying and Reporting, and Food Handlers.
- Must satisfactorily complete a physical and keep current on all immunizations.
- This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". IA W Public Law 101-64 7 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094.
- A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 52 weeks of general experience. General experience is described as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills to perform the duties of this position. OR
EDUCATION: Successfully completed education 2-years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education has been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-03, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes child development programs that meet the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of children. As well activities consisting of elements of mathematical and letter concepts, language development, art, music, science, social studies, health and physical education. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year experience at the GS-03 level is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of Child Development regulations procedures and processes.
2. Ability to develop and creative innovative activity plans and special program plans.
3. Ability to communicate effectively; orally and in writing.
4. Ability to gather, maintain and compile pertinent data.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
