This National Guard position is for a TITLE 5 SUPERVISORY FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR (MI 127 CES), Position Description Number NGT6302000 and is part of the MI 127 Wing, National Guard.
Duties
THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This position is assigned to an Air Force installation that has a GS-0081-12 Fire Chief assigned. The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as Assistant Chief for Fire Prevention planning, directing, and coordinating all activities of the technical services program including a comprehensive inspection program of all on-base facilities to detect and eliminate hazards in a high fire expectancy area, and a base-wide population motivation training program in fire prevention.
1. As the Assistant Chief of Technical Services, participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention program at the installation.
2. Plans, administers, and supervises the fire prevention education program. Coordinates public relations activities and uses the news media to promote fire safety.
3. Reviews construction and modification plans, confers with engineers, and provides technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria.
4. Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Employee must participate in a mandatory physical fitness testing program.
- Employee must meet medical standards IAW OPM GS-0081 Series and DoD Manual 6055.5.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required.
- Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System Fire Inspector III (Included Fire Inspector I and II), Fire Instructor II and HAZMat Awareness and Plans Examiner I.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Minimum time required: 30 Months
Employee is required to be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification System Fire Inspector III (Included Fire Inspector I and II), Fire Instructor II and HAZMat Awareness and Plans Examiner I.
Experience that demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention.
