The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an electrician for fire alarms, responsible for installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and repairing fire alarm systems, including the city loop and digitizer at the Fire station, as well as other alarm equipment of moderate complexity or a system of limited complexity.

Duties

1. Installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls, as well as installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs fire alarm systems and equipment of moderate complexity or a system of moderate complexity. 2. Troubleshoots problem areas, inspects for defective equipment, and examines faulty wiring. Additionally, installs, repairs, replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures. 3. Maintains software/firmware for new installs and makes programming changes to existing software/firmware for alarm systems, subsystems, and devices. 4. Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines. 5. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays. The incumbent is subject to call seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. May be required to serve "on call" and may be required to be available after duty hours when problems arise.

  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions

  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate valid driver's license is required for the position and to carry a cellphone

  • Employee will be required to support Base Readiness and Emergency Operations Exercises and real-world threats and events
  • Employee will be required to support Special Events (i.e. Annual Air Show, Base Exercises) not necessarily performing in their primary skill code
  • Employee will be required to augment the Civil Engineering Snow Removal Team not necessarily performing in their primary skill code. Employee would be trained on safe snow shoveling and snow removal practice

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Continued: Possession of a Class D Systems Technician License (electrician) or greater is required, in accordance with UFC 3-601-02 8 September 2010 UNIFIED FACILITIES CRITERIA (UFC) OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE, INSPECTION, TESTING, AND MAINTENANCE OF FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers. In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
