You will serve as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic in the Production Trades Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will troubleshoot and repair operational engines. You will record unacceptable equipment performance or conditions as directed. You will determine methods of repair, disassembly and serviceability, You will analyze problems such as fuel fluctuation, compressor instability or excessive vibration. You will replace portions of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Determining the methods of repair to use on aircraft engines, the degree of disassembly needed, and the serviceability of parts or reworks required before assembly; 2) Repairing and reworking engine parts and components and replacing accessories such as portions of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems; 3) Using engine analysis software to evaluate engine performance and parameters. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
