This position is under the Division of Nursing Services, Department of OB/GYN, Zuni-Ramah Service Unit, Zuni, New Mexico. The incumbent will provide various nursing assistant duties in support of the Obstetric, GMS/Pediatrics Units. Some clerical duties and interpreting, as needed. Position will be subject to shift rotations of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Duties
Area of Consideration: Local Commuting Area. Management has determined in advance that there is likely to be an adequate number of qualified applicants in the local commuting area.
DUTIES:
Perform a variety of personal nursing care and diagnostic support duties to obstetrical/newborn, gynecological, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Personal nursing care includes, feeding, bathing, lifting, turning, oral care, nail care, hair care and related personal hygiene duties. Recognizes and reports gross changes in patients' condition. Care may involve one-to-one care on agitated, seriously ill, or mentally disoriented patients.
Obtains supporting diagnostic data which includes taking, recording, and reporting to the supervisor/charge nurse deviations in vital signs; assists the register nurse in fetal monitoring and monitoring vital signs on critically ill patients, post procedures care and during administration of critical IV medications.
Collecting, labeling and transporting specimens to the laboratory. Obtains electrocardiographs (EKGs) under the direction of the RN. Performs and records patients' vital signs, height, weight, fluid intake and output.
Assists the MD or RN in a variety of procedural and diagnostic examinations (i.e. Colposcopy) and by setting up treatment rooms with instruments, specialized trays and supplies; preparing the patient by explaining procedures, positioning and draping the patients and passing instruments and supplies.
Reviews individualized plan of care for each patient to interpret plan of care to patients and families in personal hygiene, health habits and home care.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-04: Candidate must have six (6) months of General Experience and six (6) months of Specialized Experience that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled and equivalent to at least the GS-03 grade level, OR Successfully completed a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position.
General Experience: 1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or 2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes on the broad subject area of the occupation.
Specialized Experience: Includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care; support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement; assisting surgeons and RNs in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions and draping and positioning patients.
