Positions are under the Division of Nursing Services, Department of Inpatient/GMS, Zuni-Ramah Service Unit, Zuni, New Mexico. The incumbent will assist Registered Nurses with delivery of care to acutely ill and emergently ill patients. The incumbent will report to the Supervisory Nurse (GMS). Positions are subject to shift rotation of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Duties

Provides personal nursing care including feeding, bathing, lifting, turning, oral care, nail care, hair care, and related personal hygiene duties; Obtains supporting diagnostic data which includes taking, recording, and reporting to supervisor/charge nurse deviations in vital signs; Monitors IV for signs for infiltrations and with instruction from RNs, shuts-off infusion pumps and disconnect the IV infusion; Collecting, labeling and transporting specimen to the laboratory. Obtains electrocardiographs (EKG) under the direction of the RN; Assists the MD or the RN in a variety of procedural and diagnostic examinations and setting up treatment rooms with instruments, specialized trays and supplies; Performs less complex dressing and treatments without assistance; Assists in admitting and discharging patients. Gathers and records specific information from the patient on admission. Dresses patients and help gather discharge equipment and supplies; Reviews individualized plan of care for each patient to interpret plan of care to patients and families in personal hygiene, health habits, and home care; Operates medical devices, such as vital sign machines, suction machines, O2 sat analyzers, croup tents and glucose monitors; Provides patient safety by offering bathroom or bedside commode assistance.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidate must have six (6) months of General Experience and six (6) months of Specialized Experience that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled and equivalent to at least the GS-03 grade level, OR Successfully completed a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position. General Experience: 1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or 2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes on the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized Experience: Includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care; support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus; caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement; assisting surgeons and RNs in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions and draping and positioning patients. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
