Duties
As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:
Participate in the design and management of environmental compliance activities to assist the Assistant Secretary for Public Housing Investments to improve the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of HUD programs policies and procedures to implement NEPA and related federal laws: Design and implement activities, applying new developments and environmental protection theories, to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of the environmental review process as applied to HUD community development, housing, public housing, and other programs and projects: Improve capability of HUD recipients to meet their environmental review obligations under Section 104(g) of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended through technical assistance and training:
Coordination and dissemination of information regarding federally required environmental reviews of HUD assisted projects and programs, with local, State, and regional environmental review requirements to reduce duplication and overlap.
Serve on HUD's National Environmental Compliance Committee to conduct analysis of complex projects and programs, establish nationwide precedence and provide leadership and input into HUD's environmental regulations and policies to reconcile major compliance problems unresolvable by established methods.
Serve on HUD Environmental Review Online System (HEROS) governance board to design and implement an IT system for environmental compliance.
Participate in the development of interagency agreements to assure their practical use at Federal, State, and local governmental levels.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience for the GS-14 is one year experience at the GS-13 level, or equivalent that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must include:
- Planning, implementing, directing, or evaluating environmental compliance reviews; AND
- Serving as an advisor to executive management on environmental protection issues.
Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
