This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, TRACEN Petaluma, Comptroller Division, Moral, Well-being and Recreation Branch, Child Development Center in Petaluma, CA.

Duties

The work is performed in a Child Development Center (CDC), U.S. Coast guard. The purpose of the Child Development Services (CDS) Training and Curriculum (TAC) Specialist position is to provide and deliver a comprehensive training program to CDC employees and Child Development Services (CDS) Family Child Care (FCC) providers, assist with the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum/program that fosters the physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development of children and youth, ages 6 weeks to 12 years, and promote school readiness and support ongoing school success.

  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a Child Care National Agency Check with Inquiries.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-09 grade level if you possess the following qualifications: BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.  The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service; OR Possess 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of study. OR Combination of education and experience.  Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience. For example, an applicant with 6 months of appropriate experience equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-9) and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement for GS-9, in excess of that required for GS-7) would be qualified for a GS-9 position (assuming that there is no evidence that the attended college or university requires more than 18 semester hours as equivalent to a year of graduate study). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Some examples of specialized experience are: -Applying the principles, theories, concepts and practices of early childhood development encompassing infant through school age youth. -Developing curricula covering physical, emotional, social and cognitive development. -Assisting in establishing plans and schedules for employee and provider training. -Assisting in documentation of required training of child care center personnel. -Developing lesson plans based on curriculum requirements. -Assisting in the overall management of a child care center including such duties as program development and selection and training of personnel. You must submit a legible copy of your unofficial college transcript from an accredited college/university. The transcript must reflect the college/university name and/or logo. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Student Loan: Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for one calendar year. More than one loan may be repaid if the
combined repayments do not exceed $10,000. Receipt of this incentive will require a three-year service agreement.
