About the Position: This position is located with A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Director of Clinical Support Department of Clinical Pharmacy in Fort Belvoir VA.
Duties
Participate in the development of annual medication safety goals and objectives for the pharmacy department and MTF as a whole.
Develop, coordinate and monitor systems for quality improvement within pharmacy.
Provide project management and overall facilitation for prioritizing and advocating patient safety initiatives related to the design and implementation of systems and processes that support medication safety.
Analyze facility reporting systems to determine their effectiveness in terms of adverse drug event capture, timeliness of reporting, and usefulness of information captured.
Participate in facility based root cause analyses and failure mode and effects analyses related to medication management.
Ensure that processes for prescribing and monitoring medication therapy minimize the potential for adverse drug events.
Minimize the potential for errors associated with medication products due to labeling, packaging, or medication names that look or sound alike.
Use written communications and web based resources to identify drug supply issues.
Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and with Federal, state, and MTF regulations related to medication-use.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 2 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Basic Requirements for Pharmacist:
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing and dispensing medications; experience working with a Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) committee; and formulary management. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
