Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for performing a wide range of services related to the Victim Witness program for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Alabama. Typical work assignments will include:

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing such tasks as advocating on behalf of crime victims; providing information to victims regarding status of cases and results of trials; providing in-court support during hearings; obtaining services and assistance for victims; managing accounts for travel and lodging; reviews literature on victim witness issues, analyzes changes in legislation, case law and court rules; and ensures changes that affect the overall effectiveness of the programs activities are brought to the attention of appropriate audiences in a timely and effective manner. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Social Work, Education, Sociology, Psychology); a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of the first two years. GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must meet the following condition, as defined below: One full year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level. Specialized experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience performing such tasks as experience coordinating with victim service providers (federal, state and local law enforcement) to provide resources and services to victims of crimes prosecuted in state, tribal or federal courts; generating statistical and quantitative reports and analyses of program activity; coordinating with various law enforcement agencies by securing specialized victim services (e.g. interpreters, special transportation, return of property being held as evidence); providing assistance in obtaining authorizations for unusual witness expenses, foreign witnesses, and military and federal government employee witnesses; and providing issue analysis, recommendations, and advice to Senior Management on victim-witness matters. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
