You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist (Tactical) in the 2d Marine Logistica Group of II MARINE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE.

Duties

You will provide technical safety advice and assistance to commanders. You will provide interpretation and guidance concerning the application of safety regulations, policies, procedures, and standards. You will develop and recommend mishap/injury avoidance procedures. You will support and assist mishap investigations, reporting, and analyses of tactical and training related injury and property damage accidents

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or Final Secret final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is considered Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential system
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must be willing and able to use protective clothing and gear and observe safety precautions.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • Must attend and successfully complete the Army Career Program 12 (CP-12) Safety Internship, or approve equivalent, within one year, unless a waiver is granted by II MEF Director of Force Preservation.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing technical safety advice and assistance to commanders, directors, special staff officers and managers on matters pertaining to specialized military activities such as live combat or simulated combat training operations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Incumbent must be able to deploy (world-wide) with military units to which assigned/attached in support of tactical, contingency, and field operations. Incumbent must sign DD Form 2365, DoD Civilian Employee Overseas Emergency-Essential Agreement upon reporting for employment. Incumbent must be physically able to perform job requirements for extended periods of time, and participate in the unit's physical fitness training and field training. Incumbent must maintain medical (annual check-up), dental (semi-annual check-up), and other personal readiness standards, such as wills, powers of attorney, family care plans for single parents, passports, etc., required for deployment. Incumbent must pass annual as well as pre-and post-deployment health screenings, and receive immunizations for pre-deployment ( as required). Medical, dental, and personal readiness is a condition of employment. Theater Commander may authorize incumbent to carry the M-9 service pistol for self-defense while deployed to a combat zone. Incumbents electing to carry the M-9 service pistol must successfully complete the familiarization training (fam-fire) before taking possession of the weapon.Incumbent is exposed on a regular and recurring basis to industrial machines and tactical equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards. Incumbent must frequently work outdoors; deployment and participation in military exercises may expose incumbent to temperature extreme (-30 to +120 degrees). Exposure to dust, high noise levels, wind, sand, and environments of fumes and smoke are encountered. May be required to perform work wearing chemical protection mask and clothing. Incumbent must attend and successfully complete the Army Career Program 12 (CP-12) Safety Internship, or approved equivalent, within one year, unless a waiver is granted by II MEF Director of Force Preservation. Failure to successfully complete CP-12 may result in termination or removal from position.

Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-11:
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR

Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
