You will serve as a SAFETY AND HEALTH SPECIALIST in the SAFETY DEPARTMENT of MARINE CORPS BASE.
Duties
You will assist the Base Safety Manager in planning, developing, organizing, coordinating, administering, and evaluating a comprehensive 24-hour safety program.
You will assist in scheduling comprehensive ground safety inspections to ensure conformance to safe practices, rules, and regulations.
You will plan and schedule surveys of installation facilities.
You will make recommendations to installation management measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health and deficiencies.
You will coordinate safety and occupational health activities with representative of the medical, security and other organizational components.
You will plan and coordinate the investigation of federal employee complaints and safety and occupational health catastrophes, fatalities and serious accidents.
You will prepare written procedures for implementation of safety prevention and unsafe work practices.
You will compile and analyze statistical data from safety management system of record to determine mishap trends and develop methods for mishap prevention.
You will provide technical guidance to subordinate safety and occupational health specialist and technicians.
You will create written reports or guidance based on inspection results, industrial hygiene surveys and programs findings.
Requirements

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- Position is subject to recall and may require the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours inclusive of nights and weekends.
- Protective clothing and equipment may be required for fieldwork.
- Will be exposed to industrial and construction hazards, machine, and equipment operations, high noise levels, chemical agents, hazardous materials, extreme temperatures, and adverse weather conditions.
Qualifications
GS-09:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting in developing, and organizing a ground safety inspection program to ensure conformance of safe practices, rules and regulations to identify hazards and compliance to eliminate safety and occupational health deficiencies, works under closer supervision.
GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting in developing, and organizing a ground safety inspection program to ensure conformance of safe practices, rules and regulations to identify hazards and compliance to eliminate safety and occupational health deficiencies.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
GS-09:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
GS-11:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related
