Duties

As a HEALTH SCIENTIST you will: Supervise a small contingent of positions. Design, oversee, implement, and conduct scientific surveys/studies or projects to identify and solve health system related problems. Analyze epidemiologic investigation data utilizing new methodologies or existing techniques that have been extensively revised. Lead scientist and program consultants in various aspects of the study or survey design process, and other study support duties including analyzing and reporting of data and data dissemination to audiences. Provide advice and assistance in evaluating the methodology of past and proposed studies conducted within the program and assists subject-matter experts in the design of studies conducted within or sponsored by the program. Consult with epidemiologists, statisticians, and public health professionals concerning on-going and established studies or other projects where extensive methodological or subject matter interpretation is required. Monitor progress of research projects through all phases to assure adherence to research and programmatic objectives.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: 1) designing, overseeing, implementing, and conducting scientific studies, surveys or projects, 2) identifying and/or solving health system related problems, and 3) preparing scientific articles and technical reports. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
