You will serve as a GEOGRAPHER (GIS) in the Commander, Joint Region Marianas of COMMANDER NAVY REGION MARIANAS.

Duties

You will provide Geospatial Information Systems subject matter expertise, including knowledge of mapping software and applications, aerial photography, photogrammetry, geography, and cartography. You will plan, coordinate, and implement Geospatial Information Systems projects utilizing new technologies and a variety of computer systems, software, and procedures. You will provide graphics support in the form of: slide presentations, digital camera processing, specialized map development, hardcopy conversion-to-digital, and integration of other products for the regional website, portal, and dispatch center. You will collect, analyze, and display geospatial information in support of planning, modeling, and decision-making objectives. You will compile, plot and display damage reported by installations following a major incident to support damage assessments, prioritization of response and repair efforts, and higher headquarters reporting requirements. You will evaluate software and geospatial processing techniques to ensure state-of-the-art Geospatial Information Systems capabilities are maintained within the Navy Ashore Enterprise.

  • This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Knowledge and understanding of designing, testing, maintenance, monitoring, and management of Geographic Information System (GIS) projects, data, and software. Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must posses:

A Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.

A Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
