This position is located at Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, COMMUNICATIONS. As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will serve as speechwriter for senior CFPB officials and to perform other assignments communicating information to the news media and general public regarding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
Duties
As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will:
-Develop, research, and provide written material on CFPB actions, policies and positions for a wide range of audiences. Ensure each presentation is tailored to both presenter and audience.
-Work with senior CFPB officials to identify appropriate message and audience for speaking opportunities. Provide advice on the effective communication of information.
-Develop and write information materials designed to reach selected national audiences through the news media such as wire services, radio, television, newspapers, and magazines. Contribute to the development of social media content, fact sheets, feature articles for magazines and trade papers, and other information materials.
-Work both proactively and reactively in dealing with media interest or requests about CFPB program activities. Advise and recommend proactive approaches for avoiding and/or resolving problems and reducing conflicts.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience: For the CN-60, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the CN-53 grade level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-53 is broadly equivalent to the GS-13).
Specialized Experience for this position includes:
-Reviewing and analyzing technical material to identify and synthesize key messages and convey information for spoken communication by leaders for general audiences; AND
-Drafting speeches, statements, talking points, or other material, such as news releases, to be used by agency or other organizational leaders in a public forum; AND
-Reviewing and assessing materials written by other leaders to understand that leader's voice and written style and producing written materials in that style for speeches and other public appearances by that leader.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
