The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.

Duties

This Victim Witness Specialist provides routine assistance and liaison services to crime victims and witnesses to facilitate prosecutions. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Victim Witness Specialist support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of victim and witness assistance, collaboration with external resource providers, and community outreach. Typical work assignments will include: Identify resources and provides referrals to victims, their families and witnesses. Assists in maintaining relationships with law enforcement, investigative witness specialists, and social services providers. Performing community outreach to develop and improve assistance programs.

Requirements

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) the duties listed below: Providing resource referral counseling to crime victims, their families, and/or witnesses; Assisting crime victims in obtaining victim assistance funding and/or services needed; Supporting outreach and/or collaboration efforts with law enforcement, investigative victim specialists, community organizations or social service agencies; Gathering and/or presenting information related to victim assistance programs or policies. OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.
