The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.
Duties
This Victim Witness Coordinator provides assistance and liaison services to crime victims and witnesses to facilitate prosecutions. Duties include managing the USAO program; communicating with victims and witnesses to assess their immediate assistance needs; providing resource referral counseling to crime victims, their families and witnesses; assisting victims by serving as liaison with USAO prosecutors; and performing outreach and collaboration with local, state and Federal law enforcement, Federal investigative agency victim specialists, community organizations and social service agencies.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Victim Witness Coordinator support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of providing a variety of services related to the victim witness program.
Typical work assignments will include:
Identifying resources and providing referrals to crime victims, their families, and witnesses.
Assisting with locating victims and witnesses and assessing their ability to testify in court proceedings.
Providing information to victims on schedule changes, status of defendant's pleas, and results of trial.
Providing in-court support to victims and witnesses during and prior to hearings and trials.
Speaking to public, civic, industry and special interest groups on victim's issues.
Helping to develop and implement program protocols specific to the New York Office to ensure compliance with Departmental guidelines and provides issue analysis and recommendations on victim matters.
Collaborating with law enforcement personnel, Federal investigative agency victim specialists and social service providers.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National to apply for this position.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that includes (3) of the (4) following duties:
Developing partnerships with agencies that provide medical, psychological, legal, financial, shelter, childcare and/or employment services for victims, their families, and/or witnesses;
Delivering internal and external training to various audiences on victim assistance laws;
Coordinating travel arrangements for crime victims, their families, and/or witnesses to attend court appearances;
Collaborating with law enforcement and victim service providers to establish support plans for victims.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
You must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted; recommended SF-50s include promotions and step increases (within grade increases).
