The position is located in the Executive Office of the President, Office of the United States Trade Representative. The Incumber serves as the Economic Assistant and provides a wide range of economic analysis, trade research, and data support, and administrative assistance in support of the functions within the Office of Economic Affairs.

Duties

As a Trade Research Specialist, GS-301-11/12 your typical work assignments may include the following: Represents the Office of Economic Affairs at a variety of meetings related to the distributional Maintains statistical reference data pertaining to countries. Provides administrative support for the operation of the Economic Affairs Office. Prepares location-specific statistical briefing materials in advance of domestic travel by USTR leadership. Coordinates and prepares state export sheets for the USTR, principal officials, USTR Staff, and public outreach efforts Tracks suspense items received for action, review, or response, determining action.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. ALL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates your ability performing the following specialized experience statement above: 1) Maintaining functions and operations of economic and statistical methods and techniques. AND 2) Gathering and locating assemble information for various reports, briefings and meetings; AND 3) Familiarity with economic sources, publications, and trade releases sufficient to respond to requests and to prepare tables, charts, and other reports; AND 4) Utilizing applications to create, modify, edit, format, prepare, track and finalize administrative correspondence. OR B. A master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related. OR C. A combination of education and experience as listed above. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.) You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector that demonstrates your ability performing the following specialized experience statement above: 1) Evaluating information needs and identifies best sources and approach to meet project objectives; AND 2) Identifying and gathering data from a variety of sources, and to select appropriate information; AND 3) Maintaining statistical reference data pertaining to countries, regions, commodities and investment; AND 4) Composing correspondence or other written material that is sensitive for executive-level staff. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
