This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed 2 years, 1 day). Term appointments are non-status, non-permanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4).
This position is located in the Recruitment and Staffing Branch of the Office of Human Resources (OHR), Smithsonian Institution (SI). The mission of the Branch is to provide recruitment and placement services to all elements of the Smithsonian.
Duties
The incumbent will provide guidance to National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) on staffing, recruitment, internal placement, and pay administration for application to services provided to customers serviced. Will also perform the following duties:

Qualifications
GS-12 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as 1) completing staffing/placement activities for a range of occupations; 2) drafting announcements using an automated staffing system; and evaluating applications for minimum qualifications; 3) applying applicable laws, regulations, Executive Orders, court decisions, and agency policies and procedures for recruitment and placement of personnel using federal HR principles, concepts, and practices while serving as a consultant providing advice and guidance directly to managers and employees on all phases of the recruitment and staffing process through Merit Promotion Procedures and Delegated Examining.
GS-13 Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as 1) Providing professional advisory services in the areas of Federal recruitment and placement, staffing, which demonstrate expertise in conducting research and providing law, rule and regulation in response to management inquiries; 2) Working with managers and subject matter experts in performing job analyses to establish and validate rating, ranking, and selection criteria for general schedule positions of varied series and with positive education requirements; 3) Consulting with employees and managers, providing advice and guidance, explaining policies and procedures, justify conclusions, and provide alternatives; and 4) Providing customer service to managers, employees, applicants, and leadership in a fast-paced environment requiring quick turnaround times.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Education cannot substitute at the GS-12 or GS-13 level.
