Duties
As a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC at the WG-4749-10 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Interprets and applies complex building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to determine material, tools, and equipment needed for the project and how or what repairs need to be made.
Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and equipment.
Works from building plans, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to determine the necessary and proper repairs and/or replacements.
Locates broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual checks or through use of a small variety of test equipment.
Locates and makes repairs to plumbing that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems, such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile or pipe, and leaky drain.
Works on projects such as walls, staircases, doors, interior and exterior trim, and other miscellaneous items.

- Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606
- The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance

Qualifying experience is: Participating in the completion of the structural maintenance and repair for a building, installing fixtures, hardware or other building components, and completing assigned projects involving maintenance and/or repair of electricity, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, carpentry, plumbing or painting.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
