This position is located within the Office of Health Program, Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS) in Saint Michaels, Arizona. This position is to provide support and expertise to the Navajo Area providing epidemiology management during times of infectious outbreaks, pandemics or other public health emergencies. In addition, provides analysis of medical epidemiology in support of improving outcomes.
Duties
The incumbent provides day-to-day technical, and scientific planning, direction, management, and analyses of disease related information.
Serves as a technical expert and advisor in epidemiology in the design, conduct, and analysis of epidemiologic studies of disease related and associated risk factors and costs.
Selects and utilizes statistical techniques and computer software packages most appropriate to the problem at hand.
Prepares and submits manuscripts for presentation at scientific meetings and for publication in scientific journals.
Delivers presentations to public health, medical and other professional groups.
Serves as technical officer for collaborative projects with State health departments and other governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations.
Provides professional consulting services of various health care programs for disease and pandemic response.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-13: One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Serves as a technical expert and advisor in epidemiology. Experience with providing technical and scientific planning direction, management and analysis of disease related information. Ability to prepare professional written communication for public use in presentations and publications with experience in public speaking.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
