This position is located in the Health Promotion Disease Prevention Branch within the Office of Public Health at the Navajo Area IHS. The incumbent will serve as the Navajo Area Health Promotion Disease Prevention consultant to plan, coordinate, develop, implement, and evaluate Health Promotion Disease Prevention initiatives involving Tribal, urban, and Indian Health Service Unit programs through collaboration with various agencies/organizations.

Duties

Serve as a consultant to the NAIHS and Area Tribes in coordinating, implementing, evaluating, marketing, and communicating IHS national health promotion disease prevention initiatives. Serve as a liaison between local communities (IHS Tribal urban), Area Office, and the Headquarters Health Promotion Office to support and enhance community capacity, develop infrastructure, establish organizational networks, identify resources, and coordinate and conduct training. Supervise the HPDP staff and provide oversight to all Navajo Area Programs as the expert in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Provide leadership, direction and technical expertise in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion/disease prevention plans and programs in the service areas. Assist with the development and update of the prevention clearinghouse in the areas of training, resources, best practices, and community health assessment.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: Bachelor's graduate /higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Must submit transcripts. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Administering, managing and coordinating a Health Promotion Program. This would include: Planning, prioritizing, organizing work; select and develop methodology and consults experts and other resources as needed. Assess program needs or problems and plans and conducts projects, studies and/or programs based on assessment. Carry out assignments with high degree of autonomy and independence. Time In Grade - Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
