Duties
Conducts routine inspections and investigative work in enforcing occupational safety and health laws.
Conducts training in accident prevention, safety work methods, and hazard identification.
Provides recommendations for abatement of unsafe work habits and/or conditions incompliance with safety standards, regulations, policies, procedures, and operating instructions.
Monitors work-order submission, progress, and completion for assigned areas and ensures that abatement plans are prepared when necessary.
Investigates incidents/accidents to initiate ways to prevent or reduce such accidents and to recommend corrective measures.

Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience at the GS-07 level is defined as: assisting in the planning, organizing, and evaluation of safety and occupational health programs; implementing local safety and occupational health policies; and investigating and documenting accidents and mishaps.
Specialized Experience at the GS-9 grade level is defined as experience applying recognized safety, environmental, and health principles, standards, laws and techniques to assist in the management and evaluation of a safety or occupational health program or program element; provide technical advice and guidance to management and employees on occupational safety and health requirements; assist in the development of standards, regulations, practices and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; and assist in inspecting work practices policies and procedures for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards.
Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-7, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-5 or higher in the Federal service. To be considered for the GS-9, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-7 or higher in the Federal service.
You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement.
The Security Designation will vary and dependent upon position and may require a secret clearance or higher. Employment in this position requires a background investigation which may delay starting date. Education
GS-07 (2-grade interval) Substitution of Education for Experience: One full year of graduate level education or Superior Academic Achievement (
http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/policy/ApplicationOfStds-04.asp) may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
