Duties

Apply knowledge of medical specialties and services to determine which referral results are to be documented with which ordered referral; resolves through research unknown or questionable areas. Determine referrals completed within the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) either by using database or CHCS; identifies problem areas and reports them to the Lead Referral Management Assistant or Chief, RMO. Track completion of all referrals (deferred to the network) by maintaining a suspense system. Serve in the capacity of Referral Management Center Representative. Assist Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries; MEDDAC and civilian providers; and MEDDAC and civilian provider office staffs with any referral/consult, health service coordination, or billing issues for TRICARE health care services. Routinely interacts with MEDDAC providers, civilian network providers, MEDDAC or civilian provider office staffs, Managed Care Support Contract personnel, and MHS beneficiaries, in researching health service issues. Perform numerous repetitive duties associated with consult tracking/processing/appointing/reviewing functions. Utilize office automation equipment, word processing software, and mission specific medical software to compile and type a variety of material including progress reports or memos.

Requirements

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing customer service to patients such as guidance on facility policy and/or referral consultation; performing reception duties in a clinic such as scheduling appointments, answering phones and/or receiving patients; maintaining files for the facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision Making Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
