This position is located in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Program Operations and Local Engagement (OPOLE), Local Engagement & Administration (LEA).
As a Special Assistant to the Regional Administrator, GS-0301-14, you will be responsible for providing authoritative recommendations on key issues; coordinating projects which cut across component offices; and conducting special assignments that address management and program policy issues.
Duties
Conducts analyses and special studies of policies and programs that directly impact specific program areas across the country.
Develops and coordinates the work of program task forces and work groups on intra-component and cross-component programs, issues, and problems and presents recommendations to senior managers.
Performs special reviews, evaluations, and follow-up on key projects to assure that goals, objectives, and deadlines are adhered to.
Participates in the review and assessment of programs and projects, and serves as an internal management consultant on policies, procedures, and other management issues.
Participates in meetings and conferences; prepares written and oral presentations to internal and external stakeholders; and researches and serves as a resource for background data for meetings and conferences.

In order to qualify for the GS-14, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
1) Leading or coordinating projects or program activities across organizational lines;
2) Developing written products such as position papers, briefings, standard operating procedures, memos, policies, or manuals to provide policy and operational guidance to internal and external stakeholders; AND
3) Performing special reviews, evaluations, and follow-up of key projects to assure that goals, objectives, and deadlines are understood and met.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-in-Grade: To be eligible, current or former Federal employees and current or former Federal employees applying under the VEOA eligibility who hold or have held a permanent General Schedule position in the previous year must have served at least 52 weeks (one year) at the next lower grade level from the position/grade level(s) to which they are applying.
