About the Position: Serve as a Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation) for the Military Personnel Services Division of the Directorate of Human Resources at USAG Fort Novosel, Alabama.
Duties
Provide administrative support to one or more military programs, operations or functions include personnel manning MOS/ Retention Boards and reclassification, IPPS-A Operation reassignment, student management, transitions services and casualty.
Prepare orders for on-post transfers and attachments of personnel already assigned to the installation.
Assist the Assignments Manager in the gathering and verifying of statistics as relates to personnel manning for officers and enlisted personnel.
Use personal computer and software to include iPERMS, IPPS-A, and TRANSPOC to perform a variety of basic automated operations and functions related to military personnel operations.
Initiate actions pertaining to military personnel processing and services, including but not limited to coordinating matters relating to the Army Casualty System.
Perform a wide variety of actions pertaining to or associated with the care and disposition of deceased active, retired, or veteran and assistance to their next of kin.
Process Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) reclassification actions.
Provide assistance in military honors, burial arrangements, funeral services, flag to present to Next of Kin, headstone, reimbursement for preparation and transportation of remains, interment allowance.
Screen Officer and Enlisted Records Briefs and security records to gather background information necessary to process action.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May require TDY travel 10% of the time.
- May require travel using military or commercial aircraft or vehicle.
- Overtime may be required.
- Emergency overtime may be required.
- May be required to be on-call after duty hours.
- Positions may require performance of duties on the HURCON Evacuation Team or Mass Casualty Team.
- Performance of these duties shall require employee availability 24 hours a day 7 days per week.
- Position requires possession of a favorable National Agency Check (NAC).
- This position requires a valid state driver’s license.
- Position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Entering data in automated systems; AND 2) Providing clerical support to ensure efficient office operations; AND 3) Retrieving data from various information sources, both manual and electronic. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
Education
