You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY CLINICAL COUNSELOR/PSYCHOLOGIST/SOCIAL WORKER (FAMILY ADVOCACY PROGRAM) in the FLEET AND FAMILY READINESS DEPARTMENT (N9) of NAVAL STATION. This is an interdisciplinary position which may be filled by any of the following series: CLINICAL COUNSELOR (0101), PSYCHOLOGIST (0180), SOCIAL WORKER (0185).

Duties

You will analyze personal and family readiness program objectives to verify alignment with strategic plans and direction. You will conduct screenings, assessments, and treatment referrals to evaluate the specific level of treatment of the patient. You will identify crisis situations (e.g., suicide, family violence, abuse) to provide intervention to correct the situation. You will counsel individuals on how to deal with and effectively resolve problems. (e.g., crisis dimensions, marital problems, stress, child abuse, and separations.) You will devise a workable treatment plan (e.g., individual counseling, family counseling, referral for in client treatment) to provide required treatment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • The incumbent will be required to work overtime as needed.
  • The incumbent must meet Tier II qualification requirements described in SECNAVINST 1754.8, “Credentials Review and Clinical Privileging of Clinical Providers within Department of the Navy Family Readiness Program”.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age of 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so, and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records.
  • The position may require working flexible hours, such as 0700-1500 or 0900-1800 to accommodate client’s needs to have after hour care, including weekend hours.
  • This position requires routine on-site access to government facilities. The incumbent may perform the required tasks at an off-site location for situational telework only.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing social/human services in accordance with state, federal and municipal human service laws, programs, polices and directives; 2) Counseling and interviewing clients to identify concerns and determine appropriate referral service/options; 3) Working with community social service delivery systems; 4) Applying organizational and management techniques to direct complex social services programs; 5) Conducting domestic abuse (child and spouse) assessments and complete documentation for multidisciplinary (medical, legal, community agencies); 6) Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws governing mandated reporting of child and spouse abuse; 7) Maintaining case records, treatment plans, and statistics in accordance with state policy in order to ensure proper treatment and follow-up is provided.
